How to help someone grieving

Talk about their person.

Be patient, sit in silence and hold their hand. No words or advice required.

Just because they may appear fine doesn't mean they are. Ask how they are doing with genuine care and don't ask them to tell you what they need- they won't.

Offer acts of service, give your time with activities that show you care. Some of the most memorable and deeply felt gestures are the seemingly small ones that don't require a lot of time, energy or effort and yet they have a lasting impact.

The goal is not to fix anything- you can't.

Continue to check in, send the text, mail the card, buy the gift that may add a light to their day.

Remember grief is different for each individual to experience in their own way and time.

Presence over perfection. Just show up.
